HOW TO PREPARE EGUSI SOUP

The Egusi soup is one of the most popular soups in the eastern part of Nigeria. The major ingredient is the Egusi, melon. The soup is arguably the most cooked soup in ceremonies. It has a very delicious taste that makes it so irresistible to people.
 
The soup is rich in all the classes of food. And it is as well very tasty.
 
Anytime you visit the Eastern part of Nigeria, just ask of it in any restaurant, you will have it served you at once. But you don’t need to visit the restaurants in the Eastern part of Nigeria before you can prepare and taste the delicious soup. That is why this tutorial is prepared for you.
 
Now, let’s get started.
 
The first thing to do is to assemble the ingredients.
 
• Egusi (melon)
 
The Egusi is the major ingredient in the soup. It contains vitamins and fats and oil. It comes with a husk. So, it has to be de-husked before it can be used. The Egusi can be bought from any foodstuff shop or market in Nigeria.

• Red Oil
 
The oil makes the soup look appetizing. It is a source of vitamin A and as well fats and oil. You can get the red oil in any food stuff market or shops in Nigeria.
 
• Meat
 
The meat is always seen as the most precious constituents of any soup. It is a source of protein to the meal. I also want to use this medium to advice people to stop eating animal fats or meats dominated by fats. They contain cholesterol which is not good for the Heart. You can get meats in food stuff markets or slaughter houses in Nigeria. You can as well use dry meat to make your soup.
 
• Fish 
 
The fish add more respect to the soup just like the meat. It is a source of protein to the meal. The Stock fish i.e. the dry one. The Stock fish can be used along with the fresh one to the taste of the cook. You can get them at shops or food stuff markets in Nigeria.
 
• Pepper
 
The pepper has a unique taste and enhancement it gives to the soup that makes it an ingredient that we cannot do without. We have fresh and dry ones. Both serve the same purpose. It is a source of vitamin and mineral salt. You can get them in shops or food stuff markets in Nigeria.
 
• Cray Fish
 
The Cray fish is a major ingredient in the soup. It adds a special kind of flavor to the soup. It is also a source of protein. You can get it in a shop or market in Nigeria.
 
• Cube or Sachet Seasoning
 
This adds special taste to the soup. It enhances the flavor of the soup. You can get them in any grocery outlet or market in Nigeria.
 
• Okpeyi
 
This a special kind of ingredient found in all parts of Nigeria. It adds a special flavor to the soup. It is rich in protein. You can get them from any part of Nigeria.
 
• Salt
 
Salt is one of the major ingredients in any soup. It is rich in mineral. You can get it in any grocery outlet or market in Nigeria.
